How to Apply

All the degrees in our Instructional Design & Technology program are offered through the Department of Curriculum & Instruction of the College of Education and Human Services.

To apply for a graduate program in Instructional Design & Technology at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale, you are requested to submit an application to the Department of Curriculum & Instruction and to the SIUC Graduate School. All application materials should be requested from, and returned directly to, Curriculum & Instruction.

Master of Science Degree (M.S.)

Admission to the Master of Science in Education requires that candidates:

  • Submit all official transcripts from institutions of higher education attended;
  • Submit an official transcript with the bachelor’s degree posted and have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.7 (4.0 scale) for the last 60 hours of the bachelor’s program;
  • Submit all application materials (departmental master’s degree application;Graduate School’s Application to Graduate Study; specialty area selection sheet);
  • Pay a $50 application fee.

  • International students must also submit an official diploma in the native language and in English, a passport photo copy, transcripts in native language and English, and have a TOEFL score of at least 550. The TOEFL test score must be no more than two years old. An IELTS score can be submitted in lieu of the TOFEL score. A score of 6.0 is required.

Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.)

Applicants to the doctoral program must:

  • Submit all official transcripts from institutions of higher education attended
  • Submit official transcripts with the bachelor’s and master’s degrees posted
  • Have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 2.7 (4.0 scale) for the last 60 hours of the bachelor’s program and a graduate grade point average of at least 3.25
  • Submit all application materials (departmental doctoral degree application; Graduate School’s Application to Graduate Study; specialty area selection sheet; three-five letters of recommendation; writing sample)
  • Submit an official GRE or MAT test score
  • Pay a $50 application fee
