I find creating an Interior Area (e.g., the inside of a building, a cave, a catacomb) to be easier than Exterior Area because I don't have to worry so much about the landscape sculpturing process. After all, the ground of an interior area is almost invariably flat!
Assuming you are with me so far, we will be creating the inside of Frans' Inn in this tutorial.
Now, Frans has built a new cellar in his new inn — since his first inn was burned down several months ago.
As the cellar in his old tavern was pretty much intact, he has decided to join the new cellar with the old one so he could have a bigger cellar! This would be a sensible thing to do, but unfortunately, part of the old cellar wall had collapsed which resulted in a severe rats problem (so he thought).
The problem has gotten worse recently. Just a week ago, the rats have attacked him when he went down to the cellar to get new supply. By now Frans is about to run out of food, and is desperately looking for some one (like you) to help him get to the source of the problem.
We will be creating the followings:
[Note: If you just want to create a new Interior Area in a new Module, simply click on File » New » Area, and then select Interior (Tiles).]
Located along an old highway from Willow to Balkan Heights, Frans Inn served as a convenient rest stop. The floor area has only 13 tiles.
[Note: According to the NWN2 developers, one Interior tile is equivalent to 9 meter square (9m x 9m) in size. You may be wondering why it is not 10m x 10m like the Exterior Area. Presumably the missing 1m x 1m accounted for the thickness of the wall.]
Open Fransk.Mod and create a new Area. Type in fransk_inn as the «Area Tag», and choose Interior (tiles) as the «Area Type». Click «Next» to proceed.
This would be a good time to use the slider. Create a new Interior area of 6 x 6 (tiles) in size.
[Note Because of the way the (Interior) walls are modeled, the NWN2 developers recommend that a perimeter of 1 tile be left unused around the area we are building on. So if the Inn is 5 x 5 tiles, we should create an Area of 6 x 6 instead and build only on the central 5 x 5 tiles. If you insist on creating an area of 5 x 5, you may see some of the "bleed through (black color)" on some sections of the wall.]
If you zoom out far enough, you will see the 6 x 6 grid of the Interior Area. Remember to leave a "1 tile perimeter" as border (leave blank) to prevent the wall from showing through. This means we will only be building on the 5 x 5 inner rectangle.
